Overview:
The LT3763 is a general-purpose buck converter that integrates many complex functions. It is more than just a high-performance LED driver. Its rich features simplify the design of other demanding applications. This article will explain the application design of the LT3763 in driving LEDs, battery charging, and conditioning solar panels.

The best LED drivers require precise current regulation to reproduce realistic colors, as well as fast modulation for strong contrast dimming. It also recognizes and can withstand short-circuit and open-circuit conditions, monitors and reports current values, is immune to overheating, and protects against weak power supplies at high load currents. A standard switching converter requires a lot of expensive amplifiers, references, and passive components to do the job.

In contrast, the LT3763 LED driver controller has these features built in, reducing bill of materials costs, saving board space and increasing reliability. The LT3763 is more than just a high performance LED driver. Its rich features also simplify the design of other demanding applications, such as safe charging of sealed lead-acid batteries, or maximum power point adjustment of solar panels, or both. Even with input voltages up to 60V, the LT3763 can do these tasks efficiently.
